Representatives of Italy inaugurate UM exhibition ‘Pisa AD 1064’

Dozens of guests packed the University of Miami’s Jorge M. Perez Architecture Center on Friday, Feb. 12, to hear representatives of Pisa, Italy, discuss the restoration of the Leaning Tower and to inaugurate the exhibition Pisa AD 1064 -- The Square of Miracles, a millennium of culture.

The Opera della Primaziale Pisana, in collaboration with UM School of Architecture, brought the artistic and cultural masterpieces enclosed by the lawns of the Cathedral of Pisa to Miami; the Leaning Tower – famous throughout the world –- and “pieces” of the Square of Miracles.

Pisa AD 1064: The Square of Miracles includes small-scale replicas of the bell tower, the Baptistry, and the Cathedral as well as actual centuries-old sculptures from the Pisa campus. A nearly full-scale replica of the top two tiers of the Leaning Tower was assembled by technicians from Italy outside the architecture center.

The exhibition is open daily, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., through Friday, Feb. 26 at the Jorge M. Perez Architecture Center, 1223 Dickinson Dr. It is free and open to the public.
