Dear Belhaven Scottish Ale, I wrote you a love poem:

My beautiful ale, I adore your sweet, smooth and creamy finish.

Your malty and hoppy flavor makes me want to frolic in fields of barley and bask in your ruby-colored glow.

Well, that’s all I’ve got so far. This delicious ale is one of 130 selections on tap at Yard House, located in the Village of Merrick Park.

The restaurant, labeled “casual upscale,” has filled a major void in the hearts of beer lovers in the City Beautiful. And even if beer isn’t your main squeeze, Yard House’s party atmosphere, driven by classic ‘80s “glamrock” hits, is suitable for a date or an evening out with friends.

There’s great food if you aren’t just on a liquid diet. I recommend the roasted turkey pot pie or the oven-roasted pizzas.

Just make sure you call ahead and make a reservation if you plan on dining during peak hours. The cavernous Yard House still manages to get packed, and guests can easily spill out in the outdoor patio for fresh air and elbow room. So if you land some prime real estate by the bar – keep it and try a new beer you’ve never tried before. It may just lead to a new love poem.
