Special citizens join UM students for a day of fun
The University of Miami hosted its 29th annual FunDay on Feb. 13. The circus-themed event began at 9 a.m. and ended around 2 p.m. Four-hundred citizens came from the Miami area to enjoy a day on the Coral Gables campus with approximately 550 student volunteers.
After the opening ceremony, each citizen paired up with a UM student. Together they participated in activities including music therapy, mystery theatre, and arts & crafts. Participants also enjoyed a barbeque and a FunFair, which included bounce houses, a DJ, and a dunk tank.
FunDay was supported by numerous sponsors including the Butler Center for Service & Leadership, Chartwells, the Psychology Department, the Neuroscience Department, UM NSU Center for Autism and Related Disabilities, Delta Gamma, Pi Kappa Alpha, IFC, Delta Delta Delta, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Alpha Epsilon Pi, Alpha Sigma Phi, Alpha Delta Pi, Sigma Alpha Mu, Pi Kappa Phi, Delta Phi Epsilon.
This year’s chair, Justina Martynaityte, said, “FunDay is a really great day because you can directly see the impact you are making in return for your volunteer time.” FunDay is the oldest day of service at the University of Miami, and it continues to grow each year.
