Although there are many fine restaurants in Coral Gables, last weekend we ate at a new eatery on Miracle Mile that is nothing short of outstanding. It is Charlotte Bistro, which is located a few doors down from the Miracle Theatre.

On Friday, January 29, 2010, the City of Coral Gables played host to Super Art in the Park in Ponce Circle Park. This free event was sanctioned and produced as part of Super Bowl XLIV’s Super Celebration Series, a first for the City of Coral Gables in the community’s hosting of nine previous Super Bowls.

For the past few weeks I have noticed the fronds of all my coconut palms becoming grayer and dryer. At first I thought it a temporary winter thing, exacerbated by the severe cold spell, but each day the damage looks more severe and I worry that I might lose them all.

It is a shame that there is currently a dearth of places where children and adults can go swimming or learn how to swim in the gables. For being such a wealthy community, we have no place to take our children other than Key Biscayne, the JCC in Kendall or A.D. Barnes park for these activities.

The Country Club building is in the middle of a recreational zone consisting of a golf course and tennis courts, with a commercial restaurant across the street. The proposed plans for the Club building will compliment the recreational uses and the residential uses. And will hopefully bring enough people to dine to keep the building up and running and in good condition.

After carefully listening to the arguments presented against Mr. DiDonato’s proposal for outdoor seating at the Coral Gables Country Club, it would appear that the objections to the outdoor seating is a red herring and that the real objection is to revitalizing the Country Club and all the increased traffic it would bring to the neighborhood.
