LLS Miami Man of the Year candidate Mauricio J. Barba needs your support*

February 26th, 2013

Mauricio J. Barba

Mauricio J. Barba with Miami Boy of the Year Ryan Pino and Miami Girl of the Year Melanie Garcia, both leukemia survivors.

I am honored to say that I am a candidate for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Miami Man & Woman of the Year campaign. I am writing today to ask for your support of my efforts to help LLS in its efforts to find a cure for blood cancers and to assist patients and families as they battle this disease.

I was approached about becoming a candidate by the LLS because they know that I am a competitive and compassionate person (my track record in real estate sales tipped them off). I am fortunate that I have not had to endure this disease but unfortunate in that it has affected my family. I lost my dad to a blood cancer a few years ago and currently have a close relative and a dear friend battling and surviving Lymphoma. Although I currently have no children of my own, I could not bear the news that one of my children were to be diagnosed. When I met Melanie Garcia and Ryan Pino, I knew I had to participate.

Melanie, 16, is an Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) survivor. Forty-five years ago, ALL was essentially fatal. Today, because of research funded by LLS, the survival rate has exceeded 90%! Ryan, 13, is a Leukemia survivor. He was only 20-months-old when he was diagnosed. He endured over two years of aggressive IV chemo, spinal taps, bone marrow punctures and daily blood tests.

LLS is funding research for cures and helping patients (and parents). This is an organization that is doing the right things with the dollars it raises, and I am proud to be associated with it.

My campaign to be the Miami Man or Woman of the Year is all about dollars raised. Every dollar I raise is a vote for me and a vote to cure cancer.  I am asking you today to join me in this ambitious campaign. I have until April 20, 2013 to reach my goal of $100,000. Click here to go to the campaign website and make your contribution.

Then, I would ask you to reach out to others you know and ask them to do the same. I have found that so many of the people I talk to about my campaign have a connection to blood cancer and want to support our efforts. Encourage people to support my campaign to conquer blood cancer.

I will let you know how the campaign goes. For now, I am grateful for your friendship and support.

Sincerely,

Mauricio J. Barba, P.A.
