There’s a new team in town — the Gables Volley Club.

Every year hundreds of girls register to play at the War Memorial Youth Center, 405 University Dr., during volleyball season.

Some of the mothers recently got together and appealed to Carlos Pichardo, Youth Center recreation specialist, to come up with an all-star team, and the Gables Volley Club was born.

Coach Pichardo has worked very hard with the city to get approval and registration of the city’s first volleyball club, which consists of seven young ladies who attend Coral Gables middle schools.

The parents are very proud of their girls and believe this will be the beginning of many more successful years to come.
