Gables Museum celebrates Italian culture with sculpture, new exhibits
The Coral Gables Museum recently launched its celebration of “2013: Year of Italian Culture” with the installation of the sculpture Spiral, by Italian artist Enzo Carnebianca, in the museum’s plaza.
The artist was welcomed by members of the Coral Gables community, including Adolfo Barattolo, Italian consul general; Mayor Jim Cason; Claudio Pastor, executive director of Societá Dante Alighieri; Gloria Porcella of Galleria Ca’d’Oro; and Christine Rupp, director of the Coral Gables Museum.
The museum, 285 Aragon Ave, has several exhibits and events planned to celebrate the year of Italian culture, including a beautiful new exhibit, “Italy in Motion,” which will feature Italian-designed modes of transportation including Ferraris, Vespas, Fiats, Ducatis and custom-made bicycles.
The curator, Chloe Chelz of Miami, has procured numerous images and support materials to complete the exhibition, which opens on March 8 with an Italian opera performance (7:30 p.m.) preceded by an Italian wine and food reception (6:30 p.m.). Tickets are $30 and are available for purchase by calling the museum at 305-603-8067.
In addition, the museum is hosting the UNESCO Italian World Heritage Sites photography exhibit and two exhibits featuring Italian architecture curated by UM Professor Carmen Guerrero.
Additional events include a museum-led trip to Tuscany, lectures, an Italian-themed bike tour, wine tastings and musical performances.
