Gables High student honored as Florida PAL ‘Boy of the Year’
Coral Gables Senior High School student Joseph Paz has been selected as the 2013 Florida Police Athletic League (PAL) Boy of the Year for his outstanding contribution to the community. The selection was announced at the Florida PAL Youth Directors Conference held Jan. 10-13 in Central Florida.
“I am extremely honored to be selected by PAL,” said the 17-year old student who has participated in the Coral Gables Police Athletic League program since 2008. “I have learned valuable lessons through this organization and the positive influence they can have in developing leadership skills at a young age.”
Joseph is enrolled in the International Baccalaureate Magnet and Advanced Placement program at Gables High and holds a 4.7 GPA. He is a member of the National Honor Society and the Future Business Leaders of America and on the football and varsity soccer teams at Gables High. He hopes to continue his studies at the U.S. Naval Academy.
In addition to his involvement with PAL, Joseph has participated in the Coral Gables Police Explorers since 2010 and has devoted hundreds of hours for community activities, such as feeding the homeless at Camillus House, assisting with the Key Biscayne Restoration Program and the Junior Orange Bowl Festival’s Sports Ability Games.
Joseph will officially receive his award at the annual Florida PAL Membership Luncheon in Orlando this summer. He and his family reside West Miami.
