Let’s keep it local! GablesHomePage: Your town. Your voice. Your support.
It’s not too late to spread some holiday cheer: A $10,000 matching grant opportunity has been received to help fund the not-for-profit GablesHomePage.com.
Do not let it get away. Please join in supporting your hyper-local news source with a donation. With more than 15,000 monthly page views, 6,000 unique visitors per month and a weekly e-news summary that reaches more than 6,200 subscribers, GablesHomePage.com has become the leading source of news and information devoted exclusively to the Coral Gables community.
“As a news source entirely devoted to Coral Gables, GablesHomePage is unique to our community and it is up to our community to help sustain the uniqueness. The matching gift is significant,” said William A. “Bill” Bonn, chairman of the Coral Gables Community Foundation. “We’re a local site with a global reach.”
The foundation launched GablesHomePage.com in October 2009 with a grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation as part of Knight’s $24 million Community Information Challenge. Strategic partners include the University of Miami School of Communication, The Miami Herald and the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce.
“Through the Coral Gables Community Foundation, the GablesHomePage has provided an innovative approach to providing community information in the digital age,” said Miami Herald Managing Editor Rick Hirsch. “Its effort to provide useful news and information to residents of Coral Gables and the surrounding community — and partner with news organizations like The Miami Herald — is unique.”
“As the voice for business in Coral Gables, the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce has no greater partner in our community than GablesHomePage,” said Mark Trowbridge, president and CEO of the Gables Chamber.
Time is up. With Knight funding limited to three years, GablesHomePage.com must become self-sustaining through grants, sponsorships, underwriting and paid advertising.
“Now that our Knight Foundation grant cycle has run its course, we’re especially pleased that a generous resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, has stepped forward with this funding opportunity,” said Andria Hanley, executive director of the Coral Gables Community Foundation. “The challenge now is for the community to join in this opportunity and keep GablesHomePage online. Your support will keep our voice online.”
