Gables High trounces Varela 6-0 in girls soccer; district playoffs next
The Coral Gables High Girls Varsity Soccer Team finished the regular season Thursday, Jan. 10, with a 6-0 trouncing of Felix Varela. Gables’ record advanced to 15-4 as they head into the 5A District 15 playoffs next week.
In the game against Coral Reef on Tuesday, Jan. 8, sophomore sensation Nelly Sagarra scored three goals to lead Gables to a 5-2 victory at Cutler Ridge Park. Junior Danielle Riesco and sophomore Marianna Babboni each added a goal.
The same three players scored Thursday at the game played on Varela’s home field. Sagarra scored four goals, and Babboni and Riesco, one each. Junior playmaker Hadley Stringer recorded two assists and goalies Sophia Toche and Isabella Izquierdo shared the shutout.
Gables takes on Ferguson next Tuesday, Jan. 15, in the first round of the District Championships at Tropical Park.
