Coral Gables names new public works director

New Public Works Director Carlos Hernandez is an environmental engineer.

Carlos Hernandez, who has more than 25 years of experience in the county government and the private sectors, is the new public works director for the city of Coral Gables.

Mr. Hernandez, an environmental engineer, began his employment with the city on Nov. 19. He succeeds Glenn Kephart, who served as director since July 2010.

He most recently served in Miami-Dade County as the chief of the plan review and development approvals division of the Department of Permitting, Environment and Regulatory Affairs. His annual salary with the city is $140,545; his salary at Miami-Dade was $137,195.

Mr. Hernandez has a master’s in environmental engineering and a bachelor’s in civil engineering from Florida International University. He is a LEED-accredited professional with a specialty in building design and construction, and a certified flood plain manager and environmental health professional.
