Books & Books 30th anniversary party to thank readers & writers
Books & Books founder/owner Mitchell Kaplan will host daylong festivities at his flagship store in Coral Gables to celebrate the independently owned bookstore’s 30th anniversary.
The party, set for Saturday, Nov. 3, is dedicated to South Florida’s readers and writers, whose support has allowed the bookstore to remain in business for 30 years.
In addition to thanking patrons for their support, the event is designed to showcase the select Miami culinary authors who have toured their books through Books & Books and to showcase their culinary talent.
Chefs who will highlight their signature dishes at the party include Allen Susser, Bernie Matz, Michelle Bernstein, Norman Van Aken, Douglas Rodriguez, Thomas Buckley, Abe Ng, Steve Haas and Cindy Hutson.
Festivities will be held at Books & Books Coral Gables store at 265 Aragon Ave. and will include children and family activities from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
A street party with food by guest chefs, drinks on the house and live music will be 7-9 p.m. Admission is free. The Books & Books Coral Gables outlet will also be offering a daylong, 30% off sale.
Mr. Kaplan, a Miami Beach native, opened Books & Books in Coral Gables in 1982 and relocated the store to its current location in 2000. In 1989, he opened an outlet on Lincoln Road in Miami Beach and in 2005 opened a store at Bal Harbour Shops.
Going international, Mr. Kaplan opened the fourth Books & Books in the Cayman Islands in 2007. In 2010, Books & Books opened at Westhampton Beach, Long Island. There’s also a Books & Books at Miami International Airport.
Books & Books’ newest location opened in January 2011 at the Museum of Art in Fort Lauderdale.
