Hispanic Cultural Festival adds Latin flair to Biltmore Way
Visitors enjoyed Latin food, music, art and dance during the third annual Gables Hispanic Cultural Festival on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 20-21, along Biltmore Way.
Artists’ booths, food vendors and arts and crafts dealers lined the street, which also had areas for children and youth activities. Patrons enjoyed folkloric dance presentations by Fusion Gitana performers in traditional costumes, as well as live music by the bands Clockwork, Mantrap, Opus and Retro Versiones. Between the live performances, DJ Alex Gutierrez provided the music.
The event included a domino tournament as well as a VIP Taste of Culture, Food & Wine area where patrons received a complimentary copy of Cuban-born master artist Rafael Soriano’s book, Other Worlds Within: A Sixty Year Retrospective, valued at $110.
Mr. Soriano’s work, Armonia Serena, was chosen as the official poster of the 2012 festival, organized annually since 2009 by the Gables Hispanic Cultural Foundation.
