18th annual Oktoberfest brings a taste of Bavaria to the Gables
The 18th annual Coral Gables Oktoberfest got under way Friday, Oct. 5, and continues through Oct. 14 on the Bierhaus Plaza in front of Fritz & Franz Bierhaus, 60 Merrick Way.
Open daily 11 a.m. to midnight, the beer, food and music festival celebrates the tradition of Oktoberfest, which originated in Munich in 1810.
The Coral Gables version includes live bands from Austria and Germany, a decorated beer garden, traditional Austrian / Bavarian food, yodeling and bratwurst-eating contests and the schuhplattler folk dance. There will also be a raffle for two round-trip tickets (Miami-Berlin) on Air Berlin.
Admission is free. The event benefits Charlee Homes for Children.
