Marilyn Monroe tribute exhibition comes to Gables gallery
Galleria Ca’d’Oro recently opened “Marilyn Monroe | Tribute to a Female Icon,” a group exhibition of 22 artists celebrating the life of the late screen goddess.
Fifty years after her death, Marilyn continues to electrify the world. Marilyn Monroe | Tribute to a Female is intended not only for those who appreciate the arts, but also for the ultimate Marilyn fan, many of whom attended the opening reception on Wednesday, Aug. 22, at Galleria Ca’d'Oro, 135 San Lorenzo Ave. The exhibit continues through Oct. 10 (10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays).
This vibrant celebration of the Hollywood star pays tribute to the icon while exploring the woman behind one of the world’s most quintessential sex symbols.
The 28-work exhibition includes paintings, photographs, video, installations and sculptures, most notably a life-size sculpture of Marilyn wearing the iconic white dress immortalized by Seward Johnson in the starlet’s most famous pose.
Marilyn Monroe | Tribute to a Female debuted June 8 at the 19th-century Palazzo Wedekind in Piazza Colonna, in Rome, Italy, only a few days after what would have been Marilyn’s 86th birthday. For this symbolic reason curators Gloria Porcella and Lamberto Petrecca chose the months of June and August for the double launch of the exhibition.
