Gables Cinema presents culture-clash comedy ‘2 Days in New York’

2 Days in New York

Chris Rock and Julie Delpy star in '2 Days in New York.'

Popular comic actor Chris Rock (The Chris Rock Show, Good Hair and Dogma) and French-indie star Julie Delpy (Before Sunrise and Before Sunset) join forces for the exclusive Florida theatrical premiere of the culture-clash comedy, 2 Days In New York, beginning Friday, Aug. 17, in 35mm at the Coral Gables Art Cinema, 260 Aragon Ave.

The witty and Woody Allen-esque film, directed and written by Delpy, is in part a follow-up to her break-out filmmaking turn with 2 Days in Paris. Neurotic insecurity, over-the-top misbehaving families and New York itself get a whole new spin under Delpy’s assured hand.

2 Days In New York follows Delpy’s hyper anxious French photographer character and her hip Black talk radio host beau Mingus who is doubtful about his own cred. They live a relatively happily coupled life, each with children from previous relationships, in a lovely loft apartment, but when Delpy’s eccentric French family descends upon the pair unannounced, all hell breaks loose.

What follows are two days of escalating mayhem and misunderstandings that include a delightfully unhinged father (played gleefully by Delpy’s real-life father, Albert Delpy), a sexually frank but juvenile sister, and the sister’s boorish boyfriend.

Gables Cinema Director Robert Rosenberg says, “Delpy and Rock nail the comedic madness that can result from the mixing and blending of cultures, which South Florida audiences will surely relate to.”
