The 2012 Capture Coral Gables Photography Exhibit opened with a  reception Friday, July 6, and continues through Friday, Aug. 25, at the Coral Gables Museum, 285 Aragon Ave.

Presented in conjunction with Coral Gables Gallery Night, the reception included live music and a cash bar on the museum loggia – as well as the exhibit by nearly 50 community photographers.

Museum visitors can vote for their favorite photos anytime during the exhibition. An awards ceremony and closing reception will be held from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 25, when the 13 category winners will be announced and prizes awarded.

The grand prize is the People’s Choice Award, which will be determined by public vote of museum visitors.

Photographic categories include Architecture, Historic Sites, Landscape/Nature and Faces of Coral Gables.

Judges for the contest were:

• Larry Apple, second-generation owner of Associated Photo and Imaging, a leading company in all aspects of photographic and electronic imaging services.

• Al Diaz, a Miami Herald photojournalist who has won numerous awards, including the Pulitzer Prize Gold Medal for the newspaper’s coverage.

• Robin Hill, a well-known photographer, writer and promoter who was voted architectural photographer of the year in 2011 by the American Institute of Architects Miami chapter.

• Dina Mitrani, who opened Dina Mitrani Gallery in Wynwood in November 2008, focusing exclusively on photography. Mitrani has 20 years of experience in the international art world based in New York and Miami.
